Getting an internship

If you get an internship job offer

Evaluation of the internship proposal

  • The department will evaluate the project proposal to make sure the work you will be doing is sufficiently challenging and in the student's technical area that we feel comfortable giving three units of upper division academic credit.
  • The internship needs to be a semester-long on-site paid assignment.
  • The internship cannot be counted as a "deep course."

Once an internship has been approved

  • The internship director will add you to CS 180I during his office hours with you.

What happens during the semester?

  • Each week we meet together on Tuesdays from 4:15pm to 5:05pm (this is a requirement - you MUST arrange with your manager to have this time free, so you don't miss class!).
  • Each intern will give a short overview report on the company which is hosting their internship with an emphasis on the unit, or group, in which they are situated.
  • Each intern will present an oral report on something they have learned during the semester in the course of their internship.
  • The internship director may make a visit to selected student’s workplace to communicate with student’s supervisor and evaluate student’s job nature.

Grades

The final grade will be determined by the presentations, reports, class participation, and site visit made during the semester.
